How much brighter are the LED T8 retrofit tubes then my existing fluorescent T8 tubes?
Putting the issue on how many lumens aside for now, we thought we would do a real world test. Here is what we did. We put up just one fluorescent T8 32watt tube at 3000K in our fixture and at 4' from the fixture we measured 31 foot candles. We did the same test with the 4000K LED-T8 18 watts and got a reading of 61 foot candles and with the 5000K LED-T8 20watts we got a reading of 64 foot candles. Now it is important to remember that the human eye will see the light a little different. The 5000K will give a very cool-white color that may be good for some installations. The 4000K will be a little warmer in color, and although it may not appear to be as bright, it may make the environment more pleasing. The light output on both LED tubes measures almost double to that of fluorescent tubes.
